Admissions Tips & Advice

PDFPrintE-mail

Admissions is obviously key to joining the Corps. Without being admitted to the University, you will not be able to register for classes or join the Corps of Cadets. Below are some tips and advice from E-2 Cadets that have already been through the admissions process:

Tips & Advice

  • The Application Process

    • Fill out and mail in your application at least two months prior to the Texas A&M application deadline.
    • Your GRADES are NOT the only thing that matter! Texas A&M and many other Universities are now looking at a balance between your highschool extra-curricular events as well as your grades.
      • Examples: Football or athletics of any kind, work, college credit, mission trips, extra foreign language classes.
      • Make sure you take note of these things properly when you create your application.
    • Do not use too many reference letters, make sure that you do have two-three though, they are important
      • Ideally it is good to have at least one former student of Texas A&M that knows you well write a recommendation letter for you, make sure they indicate that in there letter: I.E. John Doe class of '85 at the conclusion of the letter.
      • Try not to use family if possible, especially immediate family.
    • Get someone who looks at resumes and/or knows english and grammar well to look over your application twice before sending it in. Spelling and grammar alone can tell someone a lot about who you are. Look it over yourself several times as well.
    • After your application has been submitted:
      • Call in and make sure that they have received everything that they need. Mistakes CAN happen!
      • After the application has been received, call in once a month and try to get your name out there.
      • If it has been a few months, start calling in once a week or every other week and make sure that everything is ok.
        • This is absolutely serious, mistakes have happened before that have prevented students from being accepted.
  • After Acceptance

    • You need to get in touch with someone in E-2 to let them know that you want apply to join. There are many ways to do this, the easiest is to click this link and fill out the recruiting form.
    • Ask what else you need to do to get prepared for Corps life. Typically E-2 will send out e-mails and letters to get in touch with new recruits over the summer and help them begin preparing for College as well as Cadet life.
