Freshman Expectations

What can You Expect Your First Year?

Freshman year cannot be explained. Like Texas A&M as a whole, “from the outside looking in, you can’t understand it, from the inside looking out, you can’t explain it.” Freshman are pushed both mentally and physically to their absolute limit. And although that limit is different for every cadet, the limit is always reached. When you think you can’t go any farther, you learn how to dig down and find a way to push through that next task, or day. Freshmen learn how to work together as a group to achieve a common goal: Unity. Freshmen learn to appreciate what they have, and they learn how to use their attributes to contribute to the group and the outfit. Within the first few weeks, the freshman learn what true friends are, and begin to realize just how important their years in the Corps of Cadets will be to their overall development into adulthood.

What will You Leave with by Senior Year?

When you leave Aggieland for the last time, you will be filled with a mix of emotions. Many seniors will shed a tear with a smile clean across their face. Most of all, you will feel a sense of accomplishment! Absolutely no one that has gone through the Corps has regretted it. However, their are many students across campus that regret not being apart of the Corps of Cadets.
Many organizations offer lifelong friends such as Fraternities, Freshman Leadership Organizations, and Clubs. None of these can compare with what you will be left with as a member of the Corps of Cadets. Every university has those things but only Texas A&M has the Corps. The Corps is the heartbeat of Texas A&M and you will be the center of it as a member of the Corps. The traditions of A&M including Silver Taps, Muster, E-Walk, and Boot Dance are just a few examples of things that students outside of the Corps don't get to experience. Sure they may attempt to know the traditions of Texas A&M but they wont know the real meaning of the tradition, nor the respect that we show to each tradition on campus.

What can You Expect to get Involved with During Your Time Here?

Becoming involved on and off campus is something that Company E-2 has focused on for several years now. In previous years the Outfit was awarded the Commandants Award for being the most active outfit on and off the quad. As an outfit we hope to earn this title again and take more titles with it. Many upper level positions of organizations off of the quad are run but cadets because of the leadership skills and Aggie spirit that they express. Student Senate and Traditions Council would be just a few examples of what we are involved in. Your options are unlimited on what you can get involved in as a cadet. If your interests range from trying out for the Aggie Wranglers to joining the parasailing club on campus there is a place for you in Company E-2.
